Why is the shell so special?
Our aim will be to increase our understanding of the shell. Compairing scripting languages
the shell stands out. To name only two specialities:
- Special syntax with strong advantages and strong disadvantages
- A very special flat environment
Are there constraints enforcing these specialities, or are they just the consequence of ad hoc constructions?
